A UNIQUE
ISLAND PROJECT

Graemsay is 'Orkney's Green Isle', nestled between the two largest Orkney islands, in the entrance to Scapa Flow.  Remote, beautiful, peaceful and unspoilt, the island is 2 miles at its longest (NW to SE) and less than a mile wide (NE to SW).  Graemsay is connected to Stromness on the Orkney Mainland by a regular ferry several times a day.

We have bought the adjoining Crofts of Newhouse, Nether Newhouse and Gorn, and the abandoned Church of Graemsay - in all, extending to 85 acres - wanting to create a unique ethical community to challenge and change the way we approach modern life.

A New Kind of Christian Retreat

We plan to restore the old Graemsay Kirk, built in 1867 and abandoned by the Church of Scotland around a century later, as the centrepiece of a unique Christian retreat - a genuine escape from the hurly-burly of everyday life and an opportunity to reconnect with nature, the eternal, and the Divine.

We seek partners to help fund the restoration of the Church, the construction of a small number of eco retreat accommodation units - most likely log cabins - and a small communal hall.

We are also looking to find an exceptional individual or couple to lead this exciting project.

A Fairer Way
To Farm

We want to do something meaningful with the land at Newhouse.  So we're aiming to be self-sufficient for fruit and vegetables, as far as that's reasonably practical, but we're currently scoping out our bigger farming mission, which we believe is to develop Orkney's - indeed, Scotland's - first no-slaughter dairy herd.
